Two days after I arrived at this new prison, a new inmate came to our housing unit. I felt sorry for this guy because not only was he brand-new to the federal prison system, he looked young. To me, he looks like a short sixteen-year-old kid even though he’s 25. I met him just as he was about to go to a Bible study with the guy that left me all his food in the ADC.
To look like you are 16 in prison is bad enough, but to look that young in a prison where they have the s.o. management program is REALLY bad. I knew the gays weren’t going to leave this guy alone, and I was right. Even though I declined the offer to join their Bible study, I followed them up to the chapel before going to the rec yard. The new guy looked like a decent person, and I wanted more friends.
As we got to the chapel doors, our party of three was stopped by an inmate with a Bible in his hand. My grocery guy went on into the chapel while this small, rotund inmate started chatting up the new guy. It took all of 0.00003 seconds for me to figure out what he was about. He completely ignored me as he spoke to the newbie.
“Hey, you must be new here. If you need anything, just let me know. Us little guys have to stick together.” (wink)
I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing. This guy had been on the compound for maybe 3 or 4 hours, and already the gays were putting out feelers on him.
“ . . . Us little guys need to stick together.” Yeah, I knew exactly how this guy wanted to stick to my new associate, and I wasn’t going to stand there and allow it.
I grabbed the new guy’s shoulder and pulled him off to the side as he was being led into the chapel by the homosexual predator. The rotund “little guy” looked saddened by this as if I had made a claim on the newcomer, and I watched him slink dejectedly inside the chapel like a wounded animal.
The new guy had a lesson to learn, and he had to learn it FAST. I didn’t want to offend him, though, because he might have been just as gay as the guy that was after him. I settled for telling him to watch who you accept gifts from, as some people may be looking for favors in return. He seemed to take my advice to heart. Hopefully he won’t have any more trouble, but I suspect that he will. I’ll have to keep an eye out for him, just in case.
